Saturday, 29th of Jun, 12.00; leaving from Festival HQ after the Opening
A relaxing scenic cycle down Cork Harbour to Blackrock Castle. Then continuing on to Rochestown and on to Passage West. A free ferry crossing to Great island Cobh with panoramic views courtesy of Cross River Ferries . A short cycle to Cobh brings us to the town park and a stop for lunch/picnic. Spike Island ( a former island prison) and the Irish Naval Base are visible in the harbour. We break here for one hour with plenty of time for sightseeing and more coffee.
We recommence our cycle with a trip to the Titanic Memorial Park and birthplace of the famous boxer Jack Doyle. We travel uphill to Cobh Cathedral where we stop for ten minutes to catch our breath, listen to its famous bells and enjoy the views from its elevated site. We make our return journey to the ferry and back to Cork city via Mahon where we pick up the old railway line and on to the Atlantic Pond populated by wildlife ( ducks and swans) and homeward to the city centre.
Thanks again to Cross River Ferries for sponsoring the crossing!
